PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE (PPL)
A Private Pilot Licence is the beginning of your flying experiences. This is the place to start with many options for additional ratings to add on after completion; night flying, seaplane rating, multi-engine aircraft or IFR (instrument rating). The Private Pilot licence is also a prerequisite for the Commercial Pilot Licence program.

COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE (CPL)
The Commercial Pilot Licence is required for someone looking to fly an airplane for hire or reward. The Multi-Engine Rating, Instrument Rating and/or Instructor Rating are popular ratings to add on to your licence to complete your qualifications for most employment opportunities. The Commercial Pilot Licence is the beginning of your professional career.

NIGHT RATING
The Night Rating is an option that can be added on to the The Private Pilot Licence and allows you to fly at night. The Commercial Pilot Licence includes the Night Rating as part of the standard training program.

INSTRUMENT RATING (IFR)
The Instrument Rating allows pilots to fly in lower visibility conditions and through cloud when operated in accordance with an IFR flight plan. A Private or Commercial Licence is required for this rating.
The Ottawa Flying Club offers training for single-engine instrument ratings. Instrument training at Ottawa International airport offers a busy IFR environment to learn the skills to operate in any airspace. With precision and non-precision approaches available, you don’t have to go far to find what you need.

IPC RENEWAL PREPARATION
The Ottawa Flying Club offers a comprehensive Instrument Procedures Check preparation course for those wishing to renew their Instrument Rating. This training is completed in our full-motion RedBird flight simulator. Our IPC training course is comprised of both ground and flight instruction, and is highly tailored to real-world scenarios.
