Recreational Pilot Permit

A Recreational Pilot Permit allows you to fly single-engie, single pilot non-high-performance aircraft in daytime, in Visual Flight Rules (VFR) weather conditions. You can fly aircraft designed to take up to 4 persons (although the Permit only allows you to carry a single passanger) and your flights must be conducted in Canada – International flights are strictly prohibited.

A Category 4 Medical is required to hold the permit. This is a self declaration form, filled out by you and a family physician.

The permit may be upgraded to a private pilot licence with further training and testing. All hours spent on your recreational permit, can be used towards the issuance of higher ratings and licences

The Transport Canada Recreational Pilot Permit requires a minimum of 25 hours flight time (of which at least 15 hours must be dual instruction) and a self study ground school (although a formal ground school is recommended), prior to issuance of a licence.

Training is conducted on our single engine fleet of Cessna 150 and 172 aircraft. Have a look at our fleet

To begin your training, contact The Ottawa Flying Club 613-523-2142 or email info@ofc.ca
